Saint Carlo Acutis Canonized – The First Millennial Saint in the Catholic Church

Saint Carlo Acutis: The First Millennial Saint Canonized

Saint Carlo Acutis has been officially canonized by Pope Leo XIV, becoming the first millennial saint in the history of the Catholic Church. His canonization took place in Rome before thousands of faithful who came to honor the young Italian whose faith, love for the Eucharist, and digital creativity continue to inspire the world.

Carlo’s life was a testimony of holiness lived in ordinary ways. From a young age, he showed deep devotion to the Eucharist and a sincere love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. He attended daily Mass, prayed the Rosary faithfully, and spent long moments in Eucharistic Adoration. Moreover, he often said that “the Eucharist is my highway to Heaven.”

Who Was Saint Carlo Acutis?

Born in 1991, Carlo Acutis grew up in Milan, Italy. He was an ordinary teenager who loved computers, soccer, and video games. Yet, above all, he loved God. Instead of using technology only for entertainment, he saw it as a way to evangelize and share faith.

He began designing websites at a very young age. For instance, when he was only 11, he created an online exhibition on Eucharistic miracles recognized by the Church. Through this work, he wanted people to realize that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist and that miracles still happen today.

Carlo died of leukemia in 2006, at the age of 15. However, his short life became a bright example of joy, simplicity, and love for God. Because of his profound faith and modern witness, many call him the “Cyber Apostle of the Eucharist.”

The Canonization of a Millennial Saint

Carlo Acutis was beatified in 2020 in Assisi, the hometown of Saint Francis. His body, displayed in a glass tomb, remains in the Sanctuary of the Renunciation, dressed in jeans and sneakers—a symbol that holiness is possible for everyone.

Finally, on October 12, 2025, Pope Leo XIV canonized him, proclaiming him a saint of the universal Church. This event marked a new chapter for young Catholics worldwide. Indeed, Saint Carlo’s life reminds us that sanctity is not about age or status but about love, humility, and living every moment in friendship with God.

As the Holy Father said during the canonization: “Carlo Acutis shows that holiness is not outdated. It is always new, always youthful.”

Legacy of Saint Carlo Acutis: The Eucharistic Miracles Project

Before his canonization, Saint Carlo Acutis dedicated his short but remarkable life to spreading devotion to the Holy Eucharist. Deeply in love with Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament, he used his computer skills to share that love with the world.

Carlo created the website miracolieucaristici.org, a digital exhibition that documents Eucharistic miracles recognized by the Catholic Church throughout history. This project gathers hundreds of miracles from around the world, inspiring countless people to grow in faith and reverence for the Eucharist.

Moreover, through this online apostolate, Saint Carlo became a pioneer of digital evangelization. He showed that technology can be a powerful tool to spread holiness, reminding us once again that “the Eucharist is my highway to Heaven.”

As a result, his legacy continues to touch hearts, inviting everyone—especially young people—to use their talents for God’s glory and to recognize Christ truly present in the Eucharist.
