Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Sacred Heart of Jesus with radiant light and a heart burning with divine love

The Heart of Jesus is not a distant symbol. It is the same heart that broke over Jerusalem, that trembled in Gethsemane, that was pierced on Calvary. If you are carrying something today — guilt, grief, a relationship that won’t heal, a fear you can’t name — this prayer is an invitation to bring it before the Heart that already knows it.

Who Is the Sacred Heart of Jesus?

The Sacred Heart is not a separate devotion from Jesus himself — it is Jesus, seen through the lens of His love. When the Church honors the Sacred Heart, she is honoring the totality of Christ’s love for humanity: His mercy for sinners, His tenderness for the suffering, His patience with our failures.

Jesus revealed this devotion to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in 17th-century France, asking that His Heart be honored, consoled, and loved in return. The image of the Sacred Heart — a heart crowned with thorns, pierced, burning with flame — is one of the most recognized images in Catholic homes around the world.

His feast day is celebrated on June 19, 2026.

When Should You Pray to the Sacred Heart?

  • When you feel distant from God and don’t know how to return
  • When guilt or past sins feel too heavy to carry
  • When your family needs healing, peace, or protection
  • When you want to grow in love — for God and for others
  • On the First Fridays of the month — a special devotion Jesus requested
  • In preparation for the Feast of the Sacred Heart on June 19
  • Any time you need mercy, consolation, or strength

A Catholic Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I come to You as I am — not as I wish I were, not with my best version of myself, but with all that I carry today.

You see what I cannot say out loud. You know the weight I have been hiding. You know the love I have withheld and the wounds I have not yet healed.

I ask You for one thing above all: make my heart more like Yours. Patient where I am hasty. Merciful where I am hard. Humble where I am proud. Faithful where I have wandered.

I place before You this intention: [mention your intention here]

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You. I consecrate myself to You. Have mercy on me.

Amen.

How to Use This Prayer

Pray it slowly — not as a formula, but as a conversation. Many Catholics pray it on the First Friday of each month, as Jesus asked through Saint Margaret Mary. You can also pray it daily in June, the month the Church dedicates to the Sacred Heart, or on June 19, the feast day itself.

If you want to go deeper, the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus begins nine days before the feast — a powerful way to prepare your heart.
