There are moments when words fail us — when the weight of sin, suffering, or fear is too heavy to carry into prayer. Saint Faustina knew those moments. And in her Diary, Jesus gave her a prayer that needed no great eloquence: only trust. The Litany of Divine Mercy is a slow, meditative prayer — each line a different face of God’s mercy, each response the same act of surrender: I trust in You. Pray it when you cannot find the words. Let the words find you.
About This Litany
This litany comes directly from the Diary of Saint Faustina Kowalska (Diary, 949), the spiritual journal in which she recorded the revelations she received from Jesus Christ. Unlike other litanies, it does not ask for intercession from saints. It speaks directly to God’s mercy — naming it, contemplating it, and responding with a single act of trust repeated with each invocation.
It may be prayed alone or in community, slowly or rapidly, at any time of day. It is particularly appropriate when prayed during Eucharistic Adoration, at the Hour of Mercy (3:00 PM), or as a preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
How to Pray the Litany of Divine Mercy
Before praying this litany:
- Find a quiet place.
- Pray slowly, meditating on each invocation.
- Repeat “I trust in You” with confidence and faith.
