When life feels overwhelming — when fear, danger, or uncertainty press in from every side — we have always known where to turn. For over seventeen centuries, the faithful have turned to the Virgin Mary with one simple cry: protect us, help us, do not abandon us. This prayer is that cry — ancient, powerful, and trusted by the faithful for centuries.
In times of fear, illness, or uncertainty, we turn to the Virgin Mary, trusting in her help and protection.
Who Is the Virgin Mary?
Mary is the Mother of Jesus Christ and, by His gift from the Cross, the Mother of all believers. She is not merely a historical figure — she is a living intercessor who stands before God on our behalf. The oldest known prayer to the Virgin, found in a Greek papyrus dating to around 300 AD, begins with the words: “We fly to thy protection, O holy Mother of God.” From the earliest centuries of the Church, Christians have turned to her in every need — and found her faithful.

Most Holy and Immaculate Virgin Mary, my Mother, I have recourse to you today, the Mother of my Lord. I venerate you, O great Queen, and thank you for all the graces you have obtained for me. Accept me as your servant, and receive me under your protection, O Mother of Mercies. Deliver me from all temptations, and do not abandon me until you see me safe in Heaven, where I will bless you and sing your mercies for all eternity. Amen.
Prayer of St. Bernard (from the Liturgy of the Hours)
