Every year, millions of faithful turn to Our Lady of Lourdes seeking healing, hope, and consolation. Whether you carry emotional wounds, physical illness, or deep spiritual burdens, this novena has brought extraordinary graces to countless souls since 1858.
If your heart longs for relief, clarity, or divine intervention, the Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes is a powerful path of prayer.
Historical Context: The Apparitions at Lourdes
On February 11, 1858, in a small village in southern France, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous at the Grotto of Massabielle. Over the course of 18 apparitions, Our Lady revealed herself as “I am the Immaculate Conception,” confirming the dogma proclaimed only four years earlier.
Crowds gathered as Bernadette prayed her rosary before the mysterious “beautiful Lady.” During one of the apparitions, Mary instructed Bernadette to dig in the dirt, revealing a miraculous spring. That water continues to flow today and has been associated with thousands of healings, both physical and spiritual.
These events transformed Lourdes into one of the greatest pilgrimage sites in the world.
A Documented Miracle at Lourdes
One of the most famous and medically verified miracles occurred in 1939, involving Gabriel Gargam, a French postal worker who survived a catastrophic train accident.
Thrown from the wreckage and left paralyzed from the waist down, Gargam was bedridden for months, unable to move, eat, or speak normally. Doctors declared his condition irreversible. His mother insisted on bringing him to Lourdes, though the journey seemed impossible.
Upon arriving at the sanctuary, he was placed near the Grotto, where pilgrims prayed continuously for his healing. During a blessing with the Blessed Sacrament, witnesses reported that Gabriel suddenly felt warmth spread through his body. He stood up—unaided—for the first time in a year.
Medical experts documented his recovery, which had no scientific explanation. A commission later approved it as an official miracle of Lourdes.
This miracle continues to inspire the faithful who seek Our Lady’s intercession with persistent trust.

Be blessed,
O most pure Virgin,
for having vouchsafed to manifest your shining with life,
sweetness and beauty,
in the Grotto of Lourdes,
saying to the child, St. Bernadette:
“I am the Immaculate Conception.”
A thousand times we congratulate you upon your Immaculate Conception.
And now,
O ever Immaculate Virgin,
Mother of mercy,
Health of the sick,
Refuge of sinners,
Comforter of the afflicted,
you know our wants,
our troubles,
our sufferings;
deign to cast upon us a look of mercy.
By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes,
you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary,
whence you dispense your favors,
and already many have obtained the cure of their infirmities,
both spiritual and physical.
We come,
therefore,
with the most unbounded confidence
to implore your maternal intercession.
Obtain for us,
O loving Mother,
the granting of our request…

as on that lovely day,
upon a rough rock in Lourdes,
you spoke to the child Bernadette

we beseech you,
grant us the petition we now so earnestly seek…

join our unworthy prayers
of praise and thanksgiving
to those of the angels and saints
and your own—
the One, Holy, and Undivided Trinity—
that God may be glorified
in heaven and on earth.
Our Lady of Lourdes,
as you looked down
with love and mercy upon Bernadette
as she prayed her rosary in the grotto,
look down now, we beseech you,
with love and mercy upon us.
From the abundance of graces
granted you by your Divine Son,
sweet Mother of God,
give to each of us all that your motherly heart sees we need,
