What Is the Miraculous Medal Novena?
In 1830, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Catherine Labouré in Paris, asking that a medal be struck with the words:
“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
Over the years, many graces and extraordinary favors have been attributed to devotion to the Miraculous Medal, including conversions, healings, protection from danger, and spiritual renewal.
The novena from November 19 to 27 prepares the soul for the Feast of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal on November 27.
Historical Miracle Associated with the Miraculous Medal
One of the best-documented miracles associated with the Miraculous Medal is the 1842 conversion of Alphonse Ratisbonne, a young man openly hostile to the Catholic faith. While waiting inside a Roman church, he experienced a sudden vision of the Virgin Mary and was baptized soon after. The Church opened a formal canonical investigation and declared his conversion an authentic miracle.

O Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of Your faithful,
and kindle in them the fire of Your love.
