Saint Rita Prayer for the 22nd of Every Month

Saint Rita of Cascia holding a rose, symbol of her intercession and monthly devotion on the 22nd

Every month, on the 22nd, we pause to pray to Saint Rita of Cascia. It is a simple but powerful tradition — and one that keeps her intercession alive not just in May, but all year long. If you have never heard of this devotion, here is everything you need to know.

Why Pray to Saint Rita on the 22nd of Every Month?

The number 22 carries a deep meaning in the devotion to Saint Rita. She was born on May 22, 1381 — and she died on May 22, 1457 — the very same date, seventy-six years later. For this reason, the Church celebrates her feast day on May 22, and her devotees have kept the tradition of honoring her on the 22nd of every month as a way of renewing their trust in her intercession throughout the year.

It is a monthly reminder that Saint Rita is not just a saint for May — she is a saint for every impossible moment, no matter what month it falls in.

When Should You Pray This Prayer?

Pray this prayer on the 22nd of every month, especially when you are facing:

  • A situation that seems impossible to resolve
  • A serious illness in yourself or someone you love
  • A broken marriage or family relationship
  • Financial hardship with no way out
  • A loved one who has walked away from God
  • Any need you have been carrying for a long time without relief

Saint Rita Prayer for the 22nd of Every Month

Glorious Saint Rita, patroness of those in need and advocate of the impossible, we come to you on this day that bears the mark of your life — the day of your birth and the day of your going home to God.

The crosses we carry feel heavy. We do not always understand why. But we trust that you do — you who bore a thorn in your forehead and called it a grace.

Turn your eyes of compassion toward us. Obtain for us a perfect surrender to God’s will, and the grace to carry our own crosses with patience and trust in God.

(Mention your intention here.)

Glorious patroness, we promise to imitate your heroic virtues and to trust, as you trusted, that nothing is truly impossible for the one who believes.

Intercede for us before the Heart of Christ, now and on every 22nd that we are given.

Amen.

Saint Rita of Cascia, pray for us.

How to Pray This Devotion

On the 22nd of each month, light a candle if you can, and place a rose nearby if possible, since the rose is her symbol. Pray this prayer slowly, bringing your specific intention before her. Many devotees pray it for three consecutive months for a particular need, renewing their petition each time.

A Note on the Rose

Saint Rita’s most famous miracle involved a rose. Bedridden and near death in the middle of winter, she asked a relative to bring her a rose from her family garden in Roccaporena. The relative went — and found a single rose blooming in the snow. This is why roses are blessed on her feast day, and why a rose is the most fitting offering on the 22nd of every month.
