What Is the Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe?

In December of 1531, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared four times to St. Juan Diego, speaking to him with tenderness and calling him:

“Juanito, Juan Dieguito — my little son.”

She requested a church in her honor and, as proof of the apparitions, left her miraculous image on Juan Diego’s tilma — an image still perfectly preserved nearly 500 years later, defying all scientific explanation.

Devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe is one of the strongest in the United States, especially among Hispanic Catholics, families, and those who seek Mary’s maternal protection.

The novena from December 4 to December 12 prepares the soul for the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

A Historical Miracle of Our Lady of Guadalupe (The Tilma)

🌟 The Miracle of the Tilma and the Roses

In the dead of winter, when no roses bloom in Mexico, Juan Diego found Castilian roses growing on the barren hill of Tepeyac.

Mary instructed him to carry the roses in his tilma to Bishop Zumárraga.

When Juan Diego opened his tilma:

  • the roses fell to the floor
  • the Bishop saw the miraculous image of Our Lady
  • and at that moment believed

Scientific studies show:

  • the tilma should have disintegrated in 20–30 years
  • the colors have no natural or synthetic source
  • Mary’s eyes reflect the people present at the miracle
  • the tilma has survived humidity, a bomb, and time

This miracle converted millions and continues to bring grace to the faithful today.

I am afraid that I will not do God’s will in my life.

On Mount Tepeyac you chose Juan to be your ambassador. He became your servant and did as you asked.

Help me to make my life copy yours, that I may be the servant of God in all things. Teach me to put in second place
the material goods of this earth. Help me to put my life in the order that God wants of me!

Holy Mother of God, who had the joy to be visited by an angel, pray for me, so that with your help I can imitate you and accept the grace God sends into my life to deal with all my problems.
